Phuket, Thailand – Social media erupted after a 15-second video surfaced on 24 September showing a man and a Thai woman engaging in obscene behavior on the back of a moving pickup truck in Phuket province.
The clip, which quickly went viral, shows the man standing behind the woman, holding her waist, while she grips a rope tied to the bed of a speeding black vehicle. The footage sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding immediate action from authorities.
On 25 September, immigration police at Suvarnabhumi Airport detained the suspect, identified as Georgii, a 23-year-old Russian national, as he attempted to board a flight to Vietnam. He was later transferred to Phuket police for prosecution.
Authorities have since charged Georgii with public obscenity and violations of Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act for uploading explicit content online. His visa was revoked, he was placed on a blacklist barring re-entry, and he will be deported after legal proceedings conclude.
During questioning, Georgii denied engaging in sexual intercourse, insisting both he and the woman wore underwear and that the act was staged purely for online content.
The woman, a 42-year-old Thai national, admitted to meeting Georgii at a local bar where she works. She told investigators she accepted THB 1,000 (approx. USD 31) to appear in two videos. Prosecutors have charged her with public indecency, and her case will proceed to the Phuket Provincial Court.
The truck driver, identified as Dina, a 59-year-old Russian woman, also had her visa revoked, was blacklisted, and will be deported following court proceedings.
Authorities confirmed that Georgii, who has hundreds of thousands of followers online, is known for producing similar provocative content in various countries.
For now, all parties involved remain in custody at Phuket police station pending further legal action.
